Only 30,000 of this $5 Silver Proof were issued in 1989 by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
It has an ultra deep mirror finish with very sharp frosted details of the Queen's effigy and the Maple leaf (you can actually see the reflection of my camera). The display case made of maple wood, which is a rarity itself, adds to the investment value of this beautiful piece.
The design of the $5 Silver Maple Leaf (SML) is static. However, privy marks were added in later years to commemorate special event/occassions and usually minted in limited amount, thus creating a added premium subsequently in the secondary market, with some privy mark selling for more than US$200 a piece!
In addtion, key date like 1997 commands a premium as only about 100,000 SMLs were minted that year, as compared to the average of more than 1 million pieces annually.
